Alpla: 5 million euros for rPET in Italy

In the Anagni plant in Lazio, Alpla Group  has invested over five million euros in an extrusion plant for recycled PET suitable for foodstuffs, obtained from post-consumer PET bottles.

Expected to be fully operational by the second half of 2021, the line will have an annual capacity of 15,000 tons of rPET: a great achievement for the group that, in Anagni, currently produces about 50,000 tons/year of PET preforms with a small portion of recycled material, but that, with the start-up of the line, will be able to cover a significant portion of its needs with post-consumer material, offering customers the opportunity to order 100% rPET preforms.

Alpa will purchase PET flakes obtained from used packaging from local recycling companies, and will then transform them into food-grade regranulate with which to produce preforms: a virtuous cycle that will stimulate the creation of local infrastructures for recycling bottles and will make it possible to exploit synergies at the logistics and warehouse management level, which will also be reflected in energy consumption.

ALPLA, one of the leading companies in the plastic packaging sector, operates PET and HDPE recycling plants in Austria, Poland and Spain and, in the form of joint ventures, in Mexico and Germany. By 2025, the group has set itself the goal of complete recyclability of all packaging solutions and a volume of recycled material equal to 25% of total requirements (50 million euros have been allocated for the expansion of recycling activities).
