Anti-counterfeiting: crucial points

New media and the impasse of European legislators at the centre of the last meeting of Indicam (Milan, October 7th), the Centromarca institute for the fight against counterfeiting, but also, in closing, the appeal of the president of Confindustria Giorgio Squinzi for a joint and international action between local bodies, associations and companies.

Heart of the conference was the speech of the outgoing president, Carlo Guglielmi, who invited all to concentrate the normative effort and operations on the web, for example by responsibilizing Internet Service Providers. Guglielmini then denounced the paralysis of the legal instruments, the true “btimebomb that threatens to transform the EU into a hub for counterfeiting” at the hands of those who, in order to develop their own port activities, are putting a brake on customs controls on goods in transit.

Another issue also broached was the protection of  the  product of design, neglected  in Italy for over 10 years “due a series of obscure maneuvers” and lastly, even some  positive facts: the active involvement of the Italian Antitrust Authority concerned, and the commitment of the national consumer associations. Because at stake are not only private interests but also, and increasingly the health of consumers. And their (our) jobs: 270,000 those lost in the last 10 years globally, including 125,000 in the EU alone.
