Labeling: EU Regulation 1169/2011

The new EU Regulation 1169/2011  on the provision of food information to consumers was published in the Official EU Journal dated  22-11.2011.  The final text is the result of years of work within the European institutions and helps to unify the laws of the single countries. The regulation systemically orders the complex field of food labeling, guaranteeing consumers the right to be well informed about the products they buy and companies clear rules to help them operate  on the markets.
The Regulation will come into force on the twentieth day after publication, but will only be applicable from 13th December 2014 regarding some points,  while the compulsory indication of nutritional values will only come into force on 13th December 2016. Within this period, companies will be able to learn and adapt to the new  rulings without incurring heavy costs  or being forced to dispose of  wrappings already in stock, organizing the production in time for the new regulations.
