Do more, do better

Laminati Cavanna, or rather the metamorphosis of a small company that wants to become big - if not in numbers, certainly in the quality of its products and services - and that continues to invest in men and machines.

More men and more organization, more machines and more space! It seems obvious, but this is exactly the path taken by Laminati Cavanna over the past year.  Specializing in contract lamination of solvent, solventless and water-based flexible packaging, the Piacenza-based company put a new Nordmeccanica Super Simplex SL 1100 solventless duplex laminating machine into operation in January.

A choice aimed at further improving efficiency and responsiveness to the times and modes of a rapidly changing market and, in particular, to meet the demands of narrow-web laminated material, destined, for example, for digital printing or PET food packaging.

This is because, true to its nature as a flexible, fast-moving company with extensive expertise in materials and adhesives - and which has made confidentiality its strong point - Laminati Cavanna continues to change, precisely by investing in quality and innovation, in the methodical adaptation of means, structures and personnel.

This is thanks to Anna Paola Cavanna, who inherited the business founded by her father and who, as a diligent “opportunity-maker”, carries out choices and actions with the aim of removing the company from any trivialization of the work done.  A methodical action that takes shape in doing, that is, in a technical knowledge that is applied in daily practice.

Outsourcing, just in case

Coupling flexible films on behalf of third parties means first of all organisation, method, planning for the unpredictable, which means being very quick.

But being a reliable partner of many Italian and foreign converters, including for the lacquering and coating of materials, the grinding of rubber cylinders and the cutting of reels, also means keeping up with their needs in terms of process quality, which is why Laminati Cavanna is ISO 9001:2015 and BRC (grade AA) certified.

Anna Paola Cavanna tells us: «We purchased the new Nordmeccanica machine in September 2021, which joins the other five solvent and solvent-free lines in the lamination department.

Increased production requirements have now led us to organize work on 2 daily shifts and, as a result, we have hired new staff, both in the production department and in logistics.

In addition, we have also rented a new hall to increase our warehouse space. I admit it: 2021 was an exciting and tiring year. We had our best turnover ever (+16%), but in order to process orders and guarantee customer service we had to sacrifice part of our margins; in fact, higher labor costs penalized us, having had to work 6 days a week since July and, of course, the increase in the prices of raw materials, packaging and the energy component.

The current year has started very well, with unexpected orders. However, in general, the further increase in energy costs and the impact of inflation on consumption leave us dismayed».

With that, however, Cavanna doesn’t stop looking ahead. And so, among the projects in progress, the drafting of a code of ethics for the company and the preparation of a sustainability report are worthy of note.

Obviously, it is no coincidence that the entrepreneur from Piacenza has been president of the Italian Packaging Institute for 4 years now and that, among the projects she has strongly desired, a prominent place is given to activities related to ethics and sustainability. This is demonstrated by the determination to create, in 2020, the Ethical Packaging Charter Foundation (of which, ça va sans dire, Laminati Cavanna is an ambassador).

Nor is it a coincidence that all this is the result of a woman who is not only capable of looking ahead with optimism, but also knows how to read the past in order to play with it in view of future possibilities.
