Equilibrium modified atmosphere packaging for vegetable products

Tags

Les Maraîchers d’Armor, a cooperative located in the heart of the vegetable-growing area in the Côtes d’Armor department of Brittany, has chosen Multivac technologies for equilibrium modified atmosphere packaging (EMAP) of its flagship product Cocos de Paimpol, a half-dry white haricot bean with protected designation of origin (PDO).

The chosen system, called FreshSAFE, optimises the oxygen content of the packaging in a continuous, natural and sustainable way. The solution is designed to extend the shelf life of fresh fruit and vegetables, either whole or in pieces, without the use of preservatives.

FreshSAFE uses an integrated perforation station for thermoforming packaging machines and traysealers which automatically perforates the upper web during the packaging process.

The rugged, airtight packaging ensures protection during handling and transport and attractive in-store presentation.

Multivac also supplied the cooperative with a T 600 automatic traysealer, the most compact model in the range, which is ideal for packaging small batches and is simple to operate using the IPC06 touchscreen control. It is equipped with various modules, making it easy to integrate into automatic packaging lines.

The order also included a TDS 300 denester from Multivac subsidiary TVI, an MDC drag chain infeed system and a direct web printer.

Cocos de Paimpol beans are packaged in a board tray with transparent upper web to allow consumers to appreciate the freshness of the product at a glance.
