Firmware 2.5 and TIA Portal V15 on Simatic S7-1516T CPUs

The family of Siemens Simatic S7-500 T technology CPUs by Siemens has been expanded, and their scalability extended.

The new S7-1616T and S7-1516TF CPUs (designed with Step 7 Professional V15) comprise: PLC project management, motion control functions and, for the Fail Safe version, and also include safety management in a single controller, all designed within the TIA Portal V15 engineering framework. The S7-1516 CPUs can manage up to a maximum of 80 axes.

All 1500T technological CPUs (S7-1511.1515 and 1517) have been updated to the Firmware 2.5 version, which allows the management of the kinematics of up to 4 axes. The kinematics are designed as “technology objects” through a configuration tool integrated in Step 7 Professional from version 15. You can also simulate the behavior of the axis through a simulator and record a trace of the movement.
The Siemens Simatic S7-1500 Advanced Controller has a fully scalable portfolio, available to the user who must perform standard, safety and motion control tasks.

These CPUs are specifically matched to the Sinamics V90 PN and Sinamics S210 servo drive systems for mid-range motion control applications. The new Sinamics S210 servo drive system is available in five performance classes: 50 to 750 watts. Among the many motion control tasks that can be performed are those that require high dynamics, such as positioning, conveying and winding. Fully scalable motion control solutions can be efficiently implemented in the TIA Portal platform with technological objects, integrated diagnostics and detailed error detection.
