Flexible PE monofilm, totally recyclable
Reduction of thicknesses and simplification of packaging film structures: It is along these lines that ITP - Industria Termoplastica Pavese has been moving for some time, also accepting the requests expressed by the EU in the European Strategy for Plastics in a Circular Economy.
Among the proposals developed in this direction, we point out a new film consisting of a single layer of PE - hence a monomaterial and monofilm solution - that has internal and external surfaces with different characteristics.
In fact, a single PE combines a high external thermal resistance, typical of bi-oriented films, and a low sealing initiation temperature (SIT) inside, which prevents the film from "sticking" to the sealing bars of the packaging machines.
Characteristics and benefits
The elimination of the lamination phase avoids the use of glues and adhesives. Furthermore, the internally recyclable tests have shown how the granule obtained from the recycling of this film, very similar to the virgin one, guarantees a perfect reworking of the material.
Easily machinable on traditional packaging lines, the film welds perfectly and does not penalize normal production rates.
ITP manufactures the monofilm starting from thicknesses of about 50 µm (for envelopes and small packs) up to very high thicknesses, 160-180 µm (for stand-up pouches or large envelopes) and can also be used as a closing top of trays.
The external print, can be done with any technology, can be protected by a scratch-resistant paint, which gives it a particular shine.
The solution is available in two variants:
- RecyBariflex, with oxygen barrier, guarantees the preservation of fresh food such as meat.
- RecySealflex, with only a water vapor barrier, guarantees the preservation of foods such as cheese or frozen foods.
