Grupo Bimbo group makes major investment in packaged bread plant Chile

The Chilean company Ideal SA, part of the Mexico-based Grupo Bimbo since 1992, has announced the construction of a large plant for the production and packaging of bread and tortillas in the municipality of Chillán Viejo (18,700 m2 on a 4.6 hectare site).

The $52.8 million investment is intended mainly to cater for demand in the southern regions of Chile and will boost local employment by creating 180 jobs. The new plant will make use of renewable energy, purification plants, rainwater recovery technologies and recycled materials.

Ideal SA has been operating in the food industry for more than 90 years and has two production sites in Quilicura and Talagante. In Chile it is a pioneer in the production of sliced packaged bread and a leader in the bakery products sector. Construction work is scheduled to begin in June 2021 and will be completed within a year.
