Lidl grows in Italy and invests €350 million in new store openings

Lidl is preparing to make further investments in Italy. For 2019 the German group has launched a €350 million plan to open 40 new stores and hire 2,000 new employees following a similar investment in 2018.
Lidl Italia has a turnover of around €4.3 billion (2017 figures, source Mediobanca) and is one of the fastest-growing retailers operating in Italy (+8.5% in 2017).
The group has 620 stores across the country and employs a total workforce of around 15,000 people.
Along with Eurospin Italia, Lillo-MD and Penny Market, it is one of the top four players in the discount segment in Italy.
