Pepsico for the planet: climate goals doubled

PepsiCo has announced plans to double its climate goal by reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions  across its value chain by more than 40% by 2030 (2015 baseline), equivalent to more than 26 million tonnes. In addition, the company has pledged to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040, one decade earlier than called for in the Paris Agreement.

In Europe, PepsiCo has so far reduced its total emissions by 6% since 2015, in line with its global reductions. The new European plan will focus on promoting sustainable agriculture, including increased use of low-emission fertilisers and precision farming technology to produce larger harvests, but also on reducing virgin plastic use and increasing the use of recycled content in its packaging.

Another priority will be to speed up the transition to the use of renewable electricity and the adoption of low- or zero-emission fuel transport for the entire value chain, as well as the implementation of innovative business processes aimed at limiting GHG emissions. One of these is its Sustainable from the Start programme, which puts environmental impact decision-making at the heart of product design.
