This is how Luciano Giani describes the origin of Magic in Oleggio (Novara) in 1987. The founder laminated a microperforated film with the absorbent paper and produced the first pad for the food packaging industry which immediately conquered the market.
Today, after 37 years, the company has reached 28 million of turnover; with 100 workers and 15 production lines, it produces over 100 million sq.m./year and exports to 37 countries. Besides food, its absorbent products are widely applied also in the medical and hygienic-sanitary sectors.
Magic is committed to reducing environmental impact, certifying procedures, adopting eco-compatible processes and carefully selecting materials. Its successful products with regards to sustainability definitely include the production of Spongel, a 100% organic and biodegradable absorbent powder and Airgel g-grade - compostable airlaid, both OK Compost-certified by TÜV Austria.

G-pad stands out among products that reflect Magic’s commitment to sustainability, the result of the combination of Airgel g-grade with compostable film heat-laminated without the use of glue, chemical additives or adhesives. The special microperforated layer guarantees the perfect drainage of liquids released by food, preventing them from rising up, and contributes to increasing the product’s shelf-life. At the end of its life-cycle, G-pad can be disposed of with organic waste destined for industrial composting, incentivising the correct recycling of waste and promoting the production of a quality compost. An alternative solution to non-recyclable packaging, it helps to reduce food waste and plastic contamination in sorted waste collection.
With Compad, recycling organic becomes a natural thing to do. Compad is a compostable absorbent pad that captures liquids and condensation from household organic waste, avoiding dripping and unpleasant odours, and keeping the bag intact. A much sought-after product in Magic’s continuous innovation process that transforms the recycling process into a more natural, efficient and sustainable operation. Positioning the absorbent pad on the bottom of the bag, the liquids released are rapidly absorbed and retained; this not only facilitates the collection and recycling process, but increases standards of hygiene and convenience. Waste, bag and pad can be disposed of together in a single gesture, contributing, also in this case, to create a high-quality compost. The container for collection remains dry and clean and does not require washing after every use. Compad is available in customised formats by dimension and absorption capacity and is also OK Compost-certified.
