Beyond the border beauty
Global Cosmetics Colour Trends 2024
Between Earth and Water, passing through the different seasons, the new trendy colours for the cosmetics sector are anticipated by Sun Chemical.
What will be the beauty colour in 2024? This is revealed in advance by Youtopia, the global programme on colour trends for the cosmetics sector launched by Sun Chemical: eight complete formulations, 16 absolutely innovative colours, pigments, textures and nuances, subdivided by season and based on the Earth and Water elements.
Rooted, for Spring/Summer, is inspired by social diversity and biodiversity concepts. The palette is composed of lively and bright tones present in nature which express enthusiasm for the future. The palette includes the pigments of the Reflecks™ MultiDimensions and Flamenco® Summit collections with high intensity chrome/pearl effects.
Distilled, conceived for the Autumn/Winter season, uses neutral and bright tones, relaxing textures and dynamic effects that emulate the sunlight reflected on water, creating relaxing sensations. The palette includes Flamenco Summit Orange, the pigment with an audacious orange tone recently launched by Sun Chemical, made with 100% natural mica coming from the Hartwell mine in Georgia, owned by the company.
Mimitika chooses Bormioli for its skincare debut
Mimitika, the young French brand known for its suncreams, enters the skincare market working together with Bormioli, which has provided the packaging for the Skin Juice Collection, four lines of serums based on natural active ingredients.
Mimitika has opted for the Thalassa model from the ready-to-go collection: 15ml glass bottles with rounded shoulders and a very feminine design. Easy to hold, they are fitted with a dropper and contain a portion of post-consumer recycled glass (15%), further confirming Bormioli’s commitment to sustainability. The Thalassa model is available in 15-, 30- and 150-ml bottles and in 50- and 200-ml jars.
Black and recyclable bottles
The Treviso-based company, Ho.Bag Corporate, has developed a new black bottle for the cosmetics sector but with all the requirements for being green, thanks to the use of latest-generation pigments, detectable with NIR sensors. The innovation responds to the needs of brands both in terms of marketing and sustainability.
Traditional containers of dark colours are generally attractive but difficult to recycle since the carbon black pigments that confer the opaque colouring absorb the infrared rays used by the optical sensors of systems for disposing of plastic waste, preventing the bottle from being allocated to the right process stream. The new solution is, instead, completely recyclable and is strategic, especially in cosmetics packaging, the life-cycle of which is typically short.
Strategic partnership between Nissha and Sulapac
Nissha (Japan) has entered into a financial and commercial partnership with the Finnish start-up Sulapac, operating in the development of bio-materials for packaging. Founded in 2016 by Suvi Haimi and Laura Kyllonen, the company is known for having launched a bio-composite (Sulapac®) with all the qualities of conventional plastics, but which biodegrades without leaving any trace of microplastics.
In the context of this partnership, Nissha, already producer of the “Ecosense” brand line of eco-compatible materials, has adopted Sulapac® for the development of sustainable packaging for food supplements and cosmetics with the “Ecosense Moulding” brand, thereby extending the Ecosense range and boosting sales on the global market.
Make-up compacts in printed cellulose
The United States company, Knoll Packaging, has announced the launch of its compacts in Knoll Ecoform 100% printed cellulose pulp (awaiting patent), a vegetable material composed of bamboo fibre and sugar cane, which can be used as an alternative to thermoformed plastic. The new application has required more than a year of research before being launched on the market. The completely customisable design has an Eco form magnet-free closure with a removable mirror. According to Benjamin Cohen, Chief Marketing Officer of the company, Knoll Ecoform has become one of the most requested materials and in 2023 cosmetic brands are adopting its use also with respect to refills.
Knoll Ecoform was introduced on the market around 5 years ago to eliminate plastic and drive positive change: by summer 2023 the company aims, in fact, to eliminate 200 tonnes of plastic from its supply chain.
Canister in recyclable mono-material PET
The new 50 ml Twist Up Airless is the latest addition to the TUA series of Glaspray (Taiwan), the packaging line in mono-material PET dedicated to skincare products. The container, a mix of glamour and sustainability, can be easily reused and, being glue-free, is 100% recyclable. The airless refill cartridge system allows for a 66% reduction in the consumption of plastic and a lower environmental impact in all production and transport phases.
