From waste to new raw material
Arcoplastica - a leading reality in the field of thermoformed and extruded plastic materials - inaugurated in mid 2020 a grinding department, which allows it to recover almost all the residues of its production cycle, retrieving up to 4,000 kg of plastic material per day (and consequently reducing the purchase and consumption of virgin material).
The result of a significant investment, the new department of 1,800 m2 brings the total extension of the Andezeno site to 26,000 m2 and is equipped with three latest generation granulators, dedicated to the recovery of PET and PP waste generated in the three extrusion plants and the 19 automatic thermoforming lines.
After careful separation by homogeneous types, the processing waste is then ground and sent back to extrusion, to be then transformed into raw material to be thermoformed and used to produce food or technical packaging, with the same transparency and mechanical properties as products made exclusively with virgin material.
With this investment, Arcoplastica not only completes the path of autonomy and verticalization of production, but further contextualizes its role as a “green” and sustainable industry, contributing in fact to the revaluation of plastic packaging: an object “demonized” by many parties that, just in the most tragic period of the pandemic, has instead prevented the stopping of the food supply chain, ensuring hygiene, safety and long preservation.
