More shelf life in a single material pack
Creating a new single material packaging that is recyclable and eco-sustainable, capable of prolonging the shelf life of food products that must not come into contact with air or humidity.
This is the ambitious project, called Claymbar, promoted by MPG Manifattura Plasticia SpA and developed in collaboration with Color System Srl (masterbatch), Heinz Italia Spa and the technical consulting firm Europartner-Inspiralia. The project obtained initial funding from the European Union, which appreciated, first and foremost, its composition: «the single material structure - emphasized Giampiero Perego, president of MPG - represents an unprecedented factor for injection packaging; furthermore, it enables significantly reducing environmental impact thanks to reduced energy consumption during production and easy and complete disposal at end of life».
But with the new packaging MPG intends to reach a further objective of fundamental importance: significantly enhancing the shelf life of food products, with the well-established advantages in cost, logistics, etc. Claymbar is designed to preserve the integrity and organoleptic properties of food products susceptible to air and humidity, such as fresh pasta, certain dairy products, baby food (homogenized pastes and powdered milk), coffee pods and gastronomic products generally.
The development timeframes are commensurate to the project’s significance: «we have committed - declared Perego - to be on the market within three years».
