For coffee capsules and compostable bags
After three years of research, two new materials by Biotec: Bioplast 900 and Bioplast 500.
For over 20 years Biotec has specialised in research, development and production of compostable bioplastic resins from renewable sources. The company Biotec has to its credit more than 200 patents and, now, after three years of research, is launching two new materials: Bioplast 900 and Bioplast 500.
Both products are the result of a strategic alliance in the world between Biotec and the Japanese company Kaneka, producer of PHBH, an Aonilex brand, with the aim of developing high performance compostable bioplastic resins also with a high content of renewable raw materials.
Designed for coffee capsules. With Bioplast 900, Biotec (German company active in Italy since 2007) has passed the first milestone for the production of capsules for espresso coffee: the material has in fact attained European value certification, which certifies its compliance for food contact and all tests on migration towards the coffee have been successfully completed.
The coming commitments of the German company, recognized as a key supplier in the field of compostable resins, concern the evaluation of the mechanical resistance in injection moulding, thermoforming and performance along filling and closing lines.
During 2015, for this new material, the gates will open to a world market of over 16 billion capsules.
Bioplast 900 is an innovative thermoplastic resin, free of plasticizers and with a high content of “GMO free” renewable raw materials. The carbon footprint of the entire product formula reaches 69%, while the content of raw materials from renewable sources is 75%.
It is an easy material to be processed, particularly suitable to achieve rigid, biodegradable and compostable products according to EN 13432 and resistant to high temperatures. The absence of plasticizers allows its use to produce high-precision, constant quality products, with no bad smells, a long lifespan, but speedily biodegradation at the end of its lifecycle in industrial composting.
Designed for bags. Bioplast 500 is a biodegradable and compostable resin for the production ofbags and films with high mechanical performance, devoid of bad smells, compostable according to Standard EN 13432 and compliant with the rules governing compostability in the home.
Bioplast 500 is distinguished by the high proportion of renewable raw materials, some 58%, and a carbon footprint of the entire formula standing at 51%.
Already available on the market, its combines ease of extrusion and welding, good mechanical strength, industrial and domestic compostability and high proportion of renewable raw materials, a concept on which Biotec has focused its industrial policy and research for the development for truly sustainable chemical products ever less dependent on fossil fuels.
