Loacker: “Pure goodness!” also in terms of revenues
Loacker, a historic South Tyrolean brand known worldwide for its famous wafers, posted a turnover of €355 million in 2019, up 14% on 2018, with sales of 957 million packaged specialities (including wafers, pastries and chocolate desserts) in over 118 countries around the world. But the company's biggest source of pride is the fact that in the first half of 2020 it succeeded in maintaining the same turnover as the previous year.
But according to Sven Rossi, Loacker's Business Director Italy, the outlook for the rest of the year remains uncertain and it is difficult to make forecasts, especially at an international level. In foreign markets, Loacker holds leading positions in the Middle East (Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Israel) and for a number of years has been focusing on Asia and North America.
In its core business of wafers, the company holds a 56.5% market share in Italy, where it is opening up to other channels such as food service and e-commerce, and 4.6% abroad.
Since 1 January 2020, the company has been using milk powder produced at its own facility in Vandoies with the aim of significantly reducing transport emissions. The 10,000 square metre plant was created as a joint venture with the Brimi dairy farm in Bressanone/Brixen (BZ) and involved a €38 million investment.
