Caterina Arcuri Ascoltarci, 2019 Ceramica, pluriball

Her current work mainly involves drawing, installation and video.
The installations - which arise from the overlapping and dialogic interaction of essentialized forms in a progressive itinerary of sublimation - involve the viewer who, guided by a minimal “signage”, can choose whether to tune in with the artist’s intentions or to make an autonomous journey that often begins (or ends) with a moment of self-awareness, encountered in a mirroring or glimpsed surface beyond an opaque membrane.
Meeting and confrontation represent a topical moment in the work of this artist, together with the energy and the suggestions of the places, of which she perceives the geotemporal stratifications.
Her works are present in museums, public and private collections.
She is a professor of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts of Catanzaro.

A word from the artist
Ascoltarci/Listening. The Artist is the one who safeguards and nourishes. In these two verbs, so feminine and maternal, I hear the notes that constantly accompany my doing.
Art is the narration of ideas and forms that, sometimes conceived by the mind, others by the heart, are born protected by transparent wraps like the skin of tadpoles.
In my installations, seeing through represents a recurring theme, since the effort made by the viewer to discern or imagine marks a valid meeting point with me and with the meaning of the work.
The eye allows us to pass through transparent or opaque materials, the mind to cross far more substantial obstacles.
The simple experience of looking through, therefore, can make us aware of what exceptional devices man is endowed with and how little and badly he uses them.
