Atlas Copco nitrogen generators: purity, efficiency and cost savings

Ideal for packaging food and beverages in a controlled atmosphere, Atlas Copco's NGP and NGP+ molecular sieve nitrogen generators guarantee low operating costs and nitrogen purity levels from 95 to 99.999%.

To protect the organoleptic qualities of food and beverages, the most effective and widespread solution has always been to inject nitrogen - the most abundant inert gas in the atmosphere - into bottles, packages, capsules and other food containers.

Packaging with nitrogen prolongs the shelf life
Nitrogen is an odorless and colorless gas which, used as a replacement for oxygen, prevents oxidation which causes the fat to go rancid, altering the color and aroma of food.
For these reasons, nitrogen is ideal for packaging food and drinks in a controlled atmosphere, according to a procedure that involves removing oxygen from the environment in which the food is stored (rigid or flexible packaging, bottles, etc.), as much more necessary the longer it is necessary to preserve its shelf life and quality, such as, for example, in the case of excellent food products intended for export.

As part of the food process, fruit juices, which lose vitamin C in contact with oxygen, are a typical example of a product for which nitrogen packaging is essential for prolonging preservation. Insufflated in the tanks, containers and bottles, the gas passes through the liquid forming bubbles that carry oxygen, which in this way is extracted from the juice, preventing oxidation.

Nitrogen generators: maximum efficiency thanks to PSA technology
For many years the supply of nitrogen was carried out using cylinders derived from the production of gas by cryogenics, thus acting on the different boiling temperatures of the gases present in the atmosphere.
For several years, technologies have been consolidated that allow the autonomous production of nitrogen, with a consequent reduction in operating costs and considerable savings for companies.
These include PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption) technology, based on carbon molecular sieves.

Atlas Copco_NGP25.jpegAtlas Copco NGP and NGP+ nitrogen generators, based on PSA technology, are designed to combine the high purity of nitrogen produced with high standards of efficiency at low costs, both for large and small capacities.
NGP systems guarantee continuous availability by eliminating the risk of production interruptions due to a lack of nitrogen supply.
The NGP + generators, recommended for applications that require high purity levels (up to 99.999%), are equipped as standard with the instrumentation necessary for automatic operation.

The electronic controller allows to optimize the incoming air, depending on the nitrogen demand and to set a minimum purity threshold below which the produced nitrogen is not introduced into the network, but expelled, in order not to pollute the process.

Anyone using Atlas Copco's NGP+ nitrogen generators can experience savings of up to 80% compared to cylinders and increased production reliability, through continuous monitoring of parameters, which can even be done remotely.

All Atlas Copco solutions are built by working closely with its partners and developing ad hoc projects for their applications, for a common and profitable growth.
