Bellows suction cup on packaging machines
To support safe, dynamic and efficient handling in the packaging industry, Schmalz presented the new SPB2 round suction cup with 2.5 folds, that can be used with cardboard box and tray erectors, for example, which require particularly high suction cup stroke, dynamic performance and wear resistance.
The range is also ideal for handling non-rigid workpieces such as filled cardboard boxes in palletizing and depalletizing processes.
The suction cups demonstrate their strengths in applications requiring maximum adaptability and distance compensation. This also includes the removal of cardboard from a magazine in rotary erectors.
Moreover, the SPB2 is highly adept at handling cardboard, rigid and flexible packaging in top- and side-loading machines.
A technological challange. The automated transport of such workpieces places high demands on the handling technology, particularly with regard to the stroke, dynamic performance and wear resistance of the suction cups.
With its 2.5 folds, the SPB2 offers excellent lifting force. It adapts perfectly to the individual workpieces and easily compensates for the varying heights of curved surfaces. The suction cup is equipped with a flexible sealing lip, which ensures an excellent seal on cardboard and rigid packaging, for instance.
A large internal fold diameter enables high flow rates for short cycle times, which has a positive effect on the energy balance in the production process. A latching element is located between the sealing lip and fold to prevent the suction cup from slipping.
Schmalz constructs the suction cup from the wear- and abrasion-proof material Elastodur ED-65. This results in a service life some three times longer than comparable products made from nitrile rubber (NBR). The SPB2 bellows suction cup is available with suction areas ranging from 20 to 50 millimeters in diameter as well as with different connection threads.
Schmalz is a global point of reference for vacuum technology in the fields of automation, handling and clamping. Schmalz products are used in a diverse range of production processes, such as robotized picking systems in auto body production, at CNC processing centers as a clamping solution for auto parts, or with an operator for manual lifting of objects ranging from boxes to solar modules. The company offers an extensive portfolio of components but also supplies complete solutions specially structured according to market requirements. Schmalz is a customer-oriented concern offering state of the art solutions, extraordinary quality and global competency in consulting. The concern is based in Glatten (in the Black Forest) and has branches in 16 countries. The Schmalz worldwide staff is currently made up of over 950 people. |
