In an increasingly competitive global market, drawn on by the main technological drivers and by the customization of products closer to the customer’s needs, packaging has now taken on an indisputable strategic role.
Attractive design and technological innovation combine to create “intelligent” and attractive solutions, which allow companies to stand out from the competition and retain customers, consolidating the perception of the brand in the consumer’s mind.

All this marked by increasingly stringent time-to-markets, which determine the contraction of the production chain and vertical integration between the companies involved.  The producer hence now seeks more than just “simple” product suppliers, but needs to rely on technological partners with whom to share vision and projects.
Oriented to the future and to the evolution of the industry in 4.0 optics, Mitsubishi Electric proposes itself as an all-round technological partner, equipped with a complete package of automation solutions and a know-how that goes beyond individual products, guaranteeing total system integration.

A value chain that communicates in Big Data

Today, packaging is a completely interconnected supply chain, where integration translates into data communication and its relative interpretation: in this context, the Mitsubishi ecosystem provides adequate answers to the needs of packaging machine manufacturers.

• Mitsubishi Electric has introduced the new MELIPC family of industrial computers that enable real-time Edge Computing, data analysis and reporting, generating a model based on statistical algorithms or artificial intelligence, ensuring continuous production control.
The data are also the main drivers of the digital market: e-commerce and new networks have opened the doors to global distribution, which is why Made in Italy packaging is exported all over the world, with the supplier industry called upon to face a growing demand.

• High production volumes need solutions that guarantee fast and precise operations. Which is why the new servos of the Mitsubishi Electric MR-J5 family, with a 3.5 kHz bandwidth and battery-less absolute encoders with over 67 million pulses per revolution, ensure high performance and cycle times of 31.25 μs.

• To drive the powerful hardware, the “Motion Library”, an easy to use software solution customized for the packaging world.

• The concept of product customization guarantees a competitive advantage on the market but is closely linked to production flexibility. Today, the evolution of robotics, thanks to Artificial Intelligence algorithms, allows the development of dynamic systems, able to adapt to changing production needs. The MELFA robots from Mitsubishi Electric ensure a high degree of flexibility in this regard; it is a complete and structured product range based on collaboration levels, which allows the development of ad hoc solutions for the partners, thus overcoming the dichotomy between industrial and collaborative robots.
