Patented edger for stretch film

A new type of edging device intended for cast stretch film co-extrusion plants has been designed and built by the Engineering Division of Akro Flex Sas (Vermezzo, MI).

Protected by patents, it generates a reinforcement on the edge of the stretch film; despite the edging, thanks to a particular winding process the derived coils are perfectly flat. The Akro Flex device also enables the edging of extremely low gauge film (7 micron non pre-stretched) and improves the pre-stretch properties by at least 30%. Furthermore, the edging significantly reduces film breakage in the event of accidental perforations that propagate crosswise.

Installation. The ideal positioning of the equipment, which is suitable for all types of new or old generation cast systems, is determined by the system layout. Installation requires a production stop of a few hours; any web change can be carried out immediately.
The Akro Flex patent will therefore contribute to meeting the guidelines and recommendations of the European Community in reducing the weight and the environmental impact of packaging.
For its R&D work, the Lombard company, constantly striving to improve solutions that reduce the thickness and improve the mechanical performance of stretch film, has already been awarded two first prizes at the International Invention Salon of Geneva.

Clauses. Akro Flex is ready to provide the new device to all stretch film producers that are committed to not marketing the new film on Italian territory.
