Acquisition of Pasta Zara’s Muggia plant by Barilla completed

In accordance with a plan agreed in 2018, Barilla has completed the acquisition of the Muggia (Trieste) plant owned by Pasta Zara, a food processing company based in Riese Pio X (Treviso).

As announced by Barilla, the €118 million deal aims to “guarantee business continuity and maintain employment levels of the facility, and will be the first step in a series of investments by the Group that are expected to bring major benefits for the area’s economy”.

The Muggia plant, which employs about 150 people in the production departments, is one of the world’s largest dry pasta sector facilities and is equipped with a self-supporting warehouse with 65,000 pallet spaces currently used at just one-third capacity.

Under the terms of the deal, the buyer undertakes to continue to package Zara products for a period of five years.

Pasta Zara will continue to operate autonomously at its headquarters in Riese and through its Pasta Zara 3 subsidiary located in the Rovato (Brescia) area.
