Findus embraces the vegetarian burger trend

Following in the footsteps of Unilever, Beyond Meat and Impossible Food, Findus is now also launching its own Green Cuisine line of vegetarian burgers, meatballs and sausages with a similar taste to meat but aimed at more environmentally conscious consumers.

The global meat substitute market offers enormous potential. Currently valued at $4.6 billion, it is estimated that within four years it will reach more than $6 billion with 39% of sales concentrated in Europe.

Made from pea proteins along with a long list of plant-based ingredients that closely mimic the taste of meat, the new products have a much smaller environmental footprint than their beef counterparts.

The burger has on average an 85% lower carbon footprint (a factor of about 7) than a meat-based burger and is produced using an estimated 80% less water.
