New bio-plastics for food trays and coffee capsules

Novamont presented its new solutions at the Marca 2024 edition regarding compostable Mater-Bi materials

With the new Mater-Bi grades, Novamont offers the possibility of producing film for thermolamination (liners) and the heat sealing of cellulose food trays with multiple technical performances and with lower environmental impact: waterproofing of the container (without using PFAS), heat resistance, gas barrier for modified atmosphere packaging and extended shelf-life, easy opening, industrial and domestic compostability, and recyclability in the paper supply chain.

Thanks to the collaboration with G. Mondini, the leading company in the production of machines and complete lines for food packaging, Novamont offers the food industry tailored packaging solutions and a series of additional services that range from product development to technical validation tests, to environmental performance evaluation, to compostability tests according to the EN 13432 standard and environmental communication tools.

Compostable also at home

The new Mater-Bi grades allow the production of various types of compostable capsules, with three transformation technologies and different oxygen barrier levels that are able to meet different market needs. The offer, in fact, includes injection-moulded, thermoformed Mater-Bi capsules in cellulose pulp, thermo-laminated with Mater-Bi liner film, also recyclable in home composting.
