Ready to change the rules of the game with SDR Lab

Innovations, the PPWR and increasingly dynamic markets are pushing packaging producers to search for innovative, sustainable and functional solutions. SDR PACK studies and develops materials and flexible packaging projected towards the future.

An ambitious project set up in 2020, leading to the development of a new and comfortable environment for the offices, as well as the expansion of the production area in Rosà, in the province of Vicenza, which doubled its size. This is what SDR PACK means by “the desire to accomplish” which is characterising its progress, culminating in the construction of a new factory, the product of an ideal blend of technology and the desire to evolve, expressed in a single site in which the entire production process is housed.

The new site is equipped with an automated warehouse able to hold 6,200 pallets, in this way guaranteeing maximum functionality and precision thanks to AI supporting the team. The extrusion department produces polyethylene reels, allowing for the optimisation and control of each phase of the process. Looking at the printing side, moreover, the department is equipped with a robot for the assembly of printing plates, the first in Europe, while five printing machines, six laminators and two cutters ensure that each packaging item has added value as a result of its high-quality technical and aesthetic performance.

Transforming challenges into opportunities. SDR PACK is taking part in Ipack Ima 2025, an unmissable event for discovering how the role of artificial intelligence and the requirements of the PPWR will revolutionise the world of packaging, conditioning design paradigms. The first step in the development of a product is understanding the reference market and the waste disposal and recycling system of the reference country. This helps in the conception and prototyping with raw materials that meet sustainability objectives right from the beginning, considering the entire LCA of the product, especially at its end-of-life.

SDR Lab: innovation in practice. It’s in this dynamic context that the SDR Lab, the Research & Development laboratory on which SDR PACK has invested with cutting-edge instruments and specialised personnel, has been set up. The aim is to carry out chemical and physical analyses of materials and to develop new packaging solutions which are easy to recycle, light and functional, without compromising technical performance in terms of safety and conservation.

The materials produced by SDR PACK, which range from plastic to paper to compostables are, therefore, enriched with new advanced compositions, conceived for large-scale recycling and for the use of PCR materials certified for food contact.

Advanced solutions for the customers. Monitoring the demands of the market and the research of innovative solutions which are the fruit of advanced R&D processes allow SDR PACK to support customers in the transformation of their packaging portfolio into increasingly sustainable solutions. This is thanks to an approach that breaks the mould, questions traditional paradigms and makes it possible to constantly promote a vision which is projected towards the future of the packaging market.
