Mahou Group pursues craft beer growth in the United States
With the aim of driving the growth of the craft beer sector in the United States, the Spanish giant Mahou Group has increased its stake in Michigan-based craft beer maker Founders Brewing from 30% to 90%.
The deal comes several months after the acquisition of a further 40% stake (now 70%) in Avery Brewing, a craft beer maker based in Colorado. Founded in 1997, Founders Brewing is the 14th largest craft brewery in the US by volume.
Its products are present in more than 30 international markets, with a significant focus in Italy, the UK, Spain and Scandinavia.
In the 2018 financial year, Mahou posted gross profits of €170 million and invested more than €24.5 million in product innovation (up 23% on 2017).
The operation is awaiting final approval from the competent authorities and is expected to be concluded in 2020.
