There are already 2,700 companies confirmed from 69 countries - there are 26 national collectives - at the next edition of the exhibition, demonstrating that, after the stops imposed by the pandemic situation, operators feel the urgency to return to share strategies and projects in person. With a further certainty, that BolognaFiere will ensure a safe and high-level business experience, because the 53rd edition of Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna is considered a moment of restart for the industry.
Enrico Zannini, General Manager of BolognaFiere Cosmoprof SpA explains that «in terms of size, the 2022 edition will be very similar to the 2019 event, net of a few defections from areas where restrictive measures are still in place, such as China and Taiwan, although there will still be representation at the fair from these regions thanks to the involvement of international staff or those with recognized green passes. There are some sectors that are growing considerably, such as Cosmopack, which compared to 2019 shows an increase of 7.5%».
Also growing is the number of companies that have approached the Cosmoprof network at the platform’s digital events - 33% of the total to date - ready to take advantage of the global visibility and prestige of the event.
On the other hand, as Renato Ancorotti, President of Cosmetica Italia, Cosmoprof’s historical partner, also stressed, “a big comeback in the Bologna pavilions next March will be the first indispensable step to reconfirm the position of the cosmetics industry among the excellences of Made in Italy recognized all over the world”.

Cosmetics supply chain: economic survey
Turnover +10.4% by the end of 2021 for a value of 11.7 billion euros. Comforting signs also from the domestic market (+8.5%) and foreign demand (+14%).
Presented at the end of October by the Cosmetica Italia Research Center, the Economic Survey outlines the recovery of turnover levels in the national cosmetics sector in the current reference scenario and projects the achievement of pre-crisis values in 2022, with further growth in 2023.
According to forecasts for the second half of 2021, the total turnover of the sector exceeds 11.7 billion euros (+10.4% compared to 2020).
The new normalcy and the climate of newfound confidence has meant that the cosmetics sector, traditionally acyclical, has held up better than most manufacturing sectors, demonstrating an ability to react to the changed modes of purchase and consumption. The future is looked upon with cautious optimism, and a key element in the recovery is certainly exports, which have also returned to growth with a 14% increase of 4.7 billion euros in value and a trade balance in excess of 2 billion euros.
The recovery of European and international trade was reflected in a +14% - 4.7 billion euros in value and a trade balance in excess of 2 billion euros.
Safety measures to protect the health of the population and vaccination campaigns have accelerated the progressive return to the usual habits of life and consumption in our country: estimates for the end of 2021 indicate a growth in the domestic market of 8.5%, for a value of 10.6 billion euros.
A new balance also for businesses and commercial activities, with positive repercussions on all sales channels: e-commerce (+29.7%, 900 million euros in value), pharmacy (+4.0%, 1.9 billion euros), large-scale distribution (+1.5%, 4.5 billion euros).
The turnover of subcontracting rises to pre-pandemic levels, touching 2 billion euros at the end of 2021 (+20.0%), supported by the recovery of foreign demand, the traditional driver of growth for Italian subcontracting producers.
Cosmopack: witness to change
From April 28 to May the 1st 2022, the reference hub for technology and innovation will host all sectors of the beauty supply chain: contract manufacturing and private label, processing and packaging machinery, primary and secondary packaging, applicators, ingredients and raw materials.
In order to understand how the cosmetics industry is transforming and what challenges will be faced in the near future, it is essential to analyze the solutions proposed by the production chain. Cosmopack 2022 will offer a complete view of the innovations, technologies and suggestions from the leaders of the sector in response to the most topical issues for consumers. On show, therefore, will be 4.0 machinery that improves productivity and process safety without forgetting the quality of the result, but also new-generation raw materials obtained from processing with reduced environmental impact, high-performance formulations that respect the planet, as well as sustainable packaging designed to facilitate recycling or reuse.
The development of Cosmopack foresees an increasingly marked division between the different specialties of the supply chain, despite not having “single-issue” pavilions. In particular, the 19PK area dedicated to the manufacturers of machinery and systems for cosmetic packaging is growing (a peculiarity of the exhibition that sets it apart from its international competitors). The pad. 15 sees the alternation of contract manufacturing, primary packaging and accessories for cosmetics with various full service companies similar to the pad. 18, while in Hall 20, alongside the innovations in the machinery sector, there will be auxiliary technologies, tertiary and end-of-line packaging, labeling systems but also primary packaging.
Eighth Factory, awards and meetings
For all segments, the return to the show in person, to meeting insiders and sharing experiences and new opportunities is fundamental.
The next edition marks the return of CosmoFactory, the initiative created eight years ago within Cosmopack that offers a unique opportunity to witness the live production of a cosmetic product directly on the show floor. This year it develops the concept of diversity, an element that characterizes the evolution of society in a multiethnic and multicultural key.
Protagonist of 2022 will be “Six4all”, a foundation that combines a neutral base with 6 shades of colors: a clever mix allows to create a specific product for each skin type. The installation, curated by the design agency centdegrés, is a hymn to know-how and the technological revolution.
To date, the confirmed partners of the “factory” are Pink Frogs Cosmetics for the base formula, Marchesini Group Beauty for the machines, PennelliFaro with a brush specifically designed for spreading the product, Scandolara for the primary packaging (an exclusive aluminium tube) and Gatto Astucci for the secondary packaging (a pochette designed to highlight the qualities of the product).
The Beautystreams agency will curate the Cosmopack Awards event, a coveted recognition of innovation in the production chain, on a par with the Cosmoprof Awards.
At the fair, during the Cosmo Talks, focus on the evolution of cosmetic packaging.
