PPWR has no secrets with PackIntelX digital platform

All-in-one platform connects packaging compliance to the recycling ecosystem

The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) has become one of the major concerns for the packaging industry across the entire value chain. From the food sector through to sorting and waste management, deadlines are stringent, and fast approaching.  As a result, professionals and experts are seeking solutions that will help them map out a clear path towards PPWR compliance, aligned with upcoming milestones, the first of which is set for 2026.

ItaliaImballaggio spoke with Siddharth Bagri, CEO of PackIntelX, to learn more about the digital platform the company has developed for the packaging market.

“I come from the sorting and recycling industry, particularly the plastic waste sector”, Mr Bagri explains. “From that experience, PackIntelX was born. The company now operates across two core business areas. The first is operational: we trade plastic waste and recycled plastics to supply recyclers and support the development of chemical recycling projects. The second – and the most relevant given the forthcoming changes in the packaging industry – is a digital platform, designed to support producers and manufacturers in achieving PPWR compliance.
The goal of PackIntelX is to bring these two business areas together by providing integrated solutions throughout the entire packaging value chain. The major challenge for next year is clear: how can companies manage the extensive packaging data that will be required from August 2026 onwards? “PackIntelX works with producers and manufacturers, offering consultancy alongside a packaging software solution specifically developed to support PPWR and EPR compliance. With our tool, producers can not only assess their current compliance status, identify critical gaps and define strategies to address them; in the future, they will also be able to manage all packaging-related data and generate technical documentation and EU Declarations of Conformity, all within a single digital platform”.

In your view how will PPWR positively affect the market?
PPWR will have a positive impact on the market by introducing much-needed transparency and standardisation to packaging data across the entire value chain”, continues Siddharth Bagri. “As requirements concerning recyclability, reuse, recycled content and EPR reporting become more detailed, companies will no longer be able to depend on fragmented spreadsheets or inconsistent datasets.
“This transformation will push the market towards robust data-management systems that enable brands to collect, organise and maintain packaging information with accuracy and traceability. With reliable data at hand, producers can make better design decisions, anticipate compliance risks, collaborate more effectively with recyclers, and ultimately accelerate the development of genuinely circular packaging solutions. In short, PPWR will shift the market from ‘best-effort reporting’ to data-driven compliance and design, enabling higher-quality recyclates, more efficient value chains, and a more predictable environment for investment and innovation”.

Which are the benefits of your platform?
The core challenge in the market is not only the financial pressure on recyclers, but also the absence of a digital bridge connecting producers, recyclers and the complex PPWR requirements”, says Bagri. “Producers are preparing for the 2026 data obligations, while recyclers are struggling to supply the high-quality material that brands will require – yet both sides lack a shared data foundation.
The PackIntelX platform closes this gap. It centralises all packaging data within a cloud-based system, automates PPWR and recyclability assessments, and converts technical requirements into clear, actionable insights. By digitalising the entire process, it reduces manual effort and creates transparency between packaging design and end-of-life outcomes. In essence, the platform uses data and digital workflows to connect two currently disconnected ecosystems, helping the market progress more rapidly towards genuine PPWR compliance and greater availability of high-quality recycled material”.

And what about design?
“When we look at packaging design, we must analyse the entire life cycle, from the initial concept through to end-of-life”, Bagri notes. “Design must therefore be optimised from the very first steps.               The platform assesses the recyclability of packaging and identifies opportunities for improvement, helping producers understand where their packaging may present challenges for waste-management and recycling processes. Through this analysis, companies are supported in adapting both packaging design and material choices to meet regulatory requirements. In addition, the data collected through the platform drives the industry towards greater digitalisation. It enables producers and recyclers to identify areas for collaboration and to engage in meaningful dialogue, both of which are essential for completing the PPWR Declaration of Conformity. From 2026 onwards, companies will be required to provide technical documentation and certifications in multiple languages and consolidate them into a single conformity declaration. And this is precisely where our platform becomes indispensable”.
