AGCM: biodegradable means...
Last March, reported by Assobioplastiche*, the Competent Authority for Market Competition ordered 17 retail brands to remove the qualification of “biodegradable” from their carrier bags made from additivised plastic, and more generally to monitor the correctness of the claim placed on their shopping bags
The brands in question have responded promptly and carried out the required measures.
The Authority has, therefore, confirmed what was already clarified by law, namely that the biodegradability «is a characteristic [...] reserved only for compostable carrier bags conforming to UNI EN 13432: 2002» and that the misuse of the claim “biodegradable”[ ...] is likely confuse consumers as to the essential features, ecological qualities, recovery mode/use of the bags in question and on the environmental choice of professional organizations whose brands were indicated on those bags».
