AMB: over 100 mln in turnover and doubled production

Italian firm AMB Spa (a trusted manufacturer of multilayer plastic films mainly for food packaging) announces its new development plan and invests 6.6 mln euro in a second site to serve alongside its historic headquarters in San Daniele del Friuli.

The new site is located in Amaro (at the former Coopca building). It is over 25,000 square meters and will be dedicated to production, logistics and administrative offices. The site has been operational since July and already houses the firm’s finished product cutting area. It will soon also be the site of outbound logistics operations.  The gradual expansion of the concern’s output capacity, through the acquisition of new extrusion equipment and installation of the new cast production line, will be completed by the end of 2017, bringing its total production capacity to 65,000 t, of which 15,000 will be from the new Amaro production site (this number will double by 2018).

In terms of employment, the 230-strong workforce in San Daniele del Friuli will be joined by 41 new employees at the second site, which will soon be employing a total of 110 individuals.
AMB Spa’s expansion investment for 2017-2018 amounts to 15 million euro and is expected to bring the firm’s 2017 turnover to over 100 million euro (its 2016 turnover was 89.3 million euro). In 2018, the sum should reach 113 million.

Sustainability pit stops
AMB Spa’s commitment to sustainable industry has been unwavering, as demonstrated by major projects implemented during the last three years that have since shown fruit and are driving the market trend for quality food packaging.
Today AMB Spa is able to produce using recyclable single-component materials, divided into different layers with different functionalities. The concern’s outstanding planning/design, organization and production capacity enable it to offer customers a complete packaging solution, from top to bottom, and a customer consulting service for each phase of a project.

•  Water-based technology.

• Skin packaging, the right thickness and more performance. Thanks to a partnership with Multivac, AMB Spa has created Multifresh production. The experimental phase of this project started in January 2016. Now Multifresh has proven the optimal solution to issues
surrounding the pacakging of fresh meats and cold cuts, with above-average sealing properties, a greater oxygen barrier and a skin effect that enables seeing and touching the product without altering its properties. Multifresh enables preserving fresh meat for up to 21 days. This represents a viable aide, then, in the fight against food waste. Multifresh combines technical advantages in safe preservation with unparalleled visual appeal (made possible by water-based printing) that fully highlights and presents the characteristics of a food product in the best possible manner.

• Reducing waste. In partnership with one of Italy’s foremost producers of medical and food packaging machinery, creating a technical synergy and making the most of shared values in matters of sustainability, AMB Spa is supplying films specially developed to reduce waste, fostering an outstandingly innovative change in MAP and skin packaging systems. The project will make it possible to reduce by 3 to 5% the amount of raw material wastage during production.
