Brazilian chicken exports rise despite the pandemic
Brazilian chicken exports totalled 349,500 tons in March, an increase of 2.6% compared to the same month in 2019.
According to the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA), total exports in the first quarter of 2020 amounted to 1.021 million tons (+8.8%), corresponding to a value of $1.635 billion (up 6% on the first quarter of the previous year).
ABPA president Francisco Turra said: “Even with the impacts generated by Covid-19, the sector continues to play its strategic role in helping the food security of the Brazilian population and of several nations around the world.” Pork exports also grew substantially (+31.45% in March). The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture highlighted how the sector in general has increased its presence in eight overseas markets during March, particularly in Egypt.
