Marco Checchi appointed chairman of Anfima
Marco Checchi is the new chairman of Anfima, the Confindustria-affiliated association which represents manufacturers of metal packaging and related products. He was elected on 29 June during the annual meeting of member companies. Checchi, born in 1959, is the CEO of Pelliconi & C., one of the world leaders in the production of metal and plastic caps for the beverage sector. A member of the board of governors of the Bologna branch of the Bank of Italy and Chairman of the Packaging division of Confindustria Emilia, he was awarded the title of Cavaliere del Lavoro (“Knight of Labour”) by the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella.
For over sixty years, Anfima has been representing the interests of the Italian producers of rigid steel and aluminium packaging both nationally and at a European level,” said the newly appointed chairman. “Metal packaging is always very relevant because it offers numerous benefits in terms of both environmental sustainability and optimal preservation of products, whether foodstuffs, chemicals or other goods. My goal for the next three years is to continue to promote the sector, while at the same time encouraging growth of the association’s membership.
The meeting at which Marco Checchi was elected also provided an opportunity to take stock of the national metal packaging industry, which has more than 4,000 employees and generated revenue in excess of 1.7 billion euros in 2020. Production of steel packaging (698,523 tonnes, +3.6%) and aluminium packaging (24,745 tonnes, +7%) both increased with respect to 2019.
