Mareblu: symbols and sustainability

In the packaging for a new line of mackerel filets, Mareblu plays on the meaning of colors and confirms its founding principle of respecting the environment and consumers.

Maximizing impact and immediately identifying the brand on the crowded and chaotic fish preserves shelf at the supermarket, in order to entice not just people who normally buy mackerel – mostly adults living in Northern Italy – but also non-users. With these goals in mind, Mareblu has created a unique and colorful line of lithographed tins that communicate freshness and modernity. The visibility on the shelf of the various versions and the ease of understanding the entire range as a whole, as well as the individual variants, was obtained by associating each of the four flavors to a “descriptive” color: green for filets in olive oil, blue for the ones in their own juices, red for spicy and brown for smoked.

Green and traceable. Like all Mareblu products, the new range of mackerel filets contains no preservatives or artificial aromas. The fish is steamed and then enriched exclusively with simple ingredients: olive oil and a pinch of salt for the olive oil flavor, water and salt for the natural one, a whole hot pepper, a laurel leaf and a few pieces of pickle for the spicy version and natural smoke for the smoked mackerel. And of course the tin confirms Mareblu’s green approach, which makes sustainability and traceability key values and a choice taken up anew each time.

The packaging can thus be easily and completely recycled, since it is made of 100% aluminium, with no labels or other materials to be disposed of. Furthermore, in the spirit of transparency of information and processes, consumers can connect to Mareblu’s website to easily access the Tuna Reader to know the product’s complete history: the species of fish, its place of origin and even the boat that caught it.
