The packaging sector – Data 2016 (3)
According to the data of the Istituto Italiano Imballaggio (data and final balance), 2016 closed with + 3.2% growth, with global production reaching 15,867 t/000. Exports are stable while imports grew by 7.5%, reaching 1,920 t/000.
Apparent consumption, standing at 15,079 t/000, grew by 4.4%.
74.5% of packaging production is destined for the food area (including beverages). In terms of sales, the packaging sector in 2016 grew by 2%, reaching 31,700 million euros.
For 2017, production growth is estimated to be around +2.5%, and according to the latest estimates the “weight” of the packaging should exceed 16,200 t/000.
With regard to foreign trade, according to the initial analysis of the Istituto, a recovery in the export trend of + 3% and a certain stability in imports should be registered. Lastly, in 2017, apparent use should grow by 2% and first assumptions on the packaging sector’s turnover speak of a growth of around 1.8%.
