Sidel and EcoVadis for a sustainable supply chain

Thanks to the partnership, Sidel is confident of being able to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases in the goods and services purchased by around 30% by 2030 compared to 2019 values.

EcoVadis, with over 17 years of experience in the evaluation of the sustainability of the supply chain (over 125,000 companies examined), will map and evaluate the environmental, social and ethical performance of Sidel suppliers on the basis of four categories: environmental impact, work conditions and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement practices.

The project forms part of the new supply chain strategy set up by Sidel’s ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) Division led by the manager Francesca Bellucci: “Over 10% of our emissions of greenhouse gases occurs upstream and we assume full responsibility for the application of human rights throughout the value chain. Solid relations with suppliers are fundamental for achieving our ambitious ESG goals. We believe that a correct and transparent collaboration throughout the value chain is the only way to meet the challenge of a greener and better future for everyone”.

As underlined in Sidel’s 2022 ESG Report, the new initiative will also support the company’s compliance with the principles established by the EU Commission’s Green Deal and with the Directive on the Corporate Social Responsibility Report approved by the EU Parliament on 10 November 2022.

Promoting sustainability through communication

With the aim of involving suppliers, Sidel has carried out targeted communication, inviting them to support campaigns such as SEDEX (Supplier Ethical Disclosure Exchange) and CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project). “The aim is to ensure that our partners are involved in the EcoVadis platform to make them increasingly engaged and active in the field of sustainability”, added Lisete Pereira, Sidel Sourcing and Project Manager.

Communication plays an essential role also according to Julien Carboni, Strategic Account Executive of EcoVadis: “Communication and collaboration are key for supporting suppliers in the adoption of sustainable practices. Thanks to the collaboration with EcoVadis, Sidel’s suppliers are now able to comply with the growing regulatory and due diligence requirements, demonstrating their commitment to their customers thanks to a reliable evaluation rating.”

Sidel will be taking part in the Hispack trade fair (Barcellona, 7-10 May), at pavilion 3, stand G160.
