Design. Taghleef Industries' biobased and compostable films represent a significant step towards sustainable and safe food contact packaging that protects the product from contamination while providing an excellent barrier to flavors, fats and mineral oils. At the same time, their use facilitates the recyclability of the packaging, offering two different possibilities of disposal at the end of life: in the paper or in the organic stream.

Technology. The material structure was developed with the objective of replacing the traditional BOPP film with a biodegradable PLA film: Taghleef Industries' NATIVIA®, which is biobased and compostable.

Sustainability. NATIVIA® films, a sustainable alternative to traditional fossil-based plastics, guarantee two significant advantages: their origin from renewable resources - certified by TUV Austria - and their compostability, in compliance with the UNI EN 13432:2002 standard (under controlled industrial composting conditions, they biodegrade within 6 months). In the solution proposed by Lineapack, NATIVIA® is laminated with FSC® certified compostable paper according to the 13432 standard. Therefore, the packaging offers a double possibility of recycling: it can be delivered either in the traditional paper stream or in the organic collection for the subsequent industrial composting, to the benefit of waste disposal and waste management. This second option allows, in fact, the absorption of the biodegradable component of solid waste, with recovery of material. Moreover, it does not require energy input and allows 100% use of the organic component to generate compost, without producing additional by-products.
