Simei 2015 Milan, 3-6 November
Sustainability and sensory analysis will be the two main themes of talks at Simei. The fair will be held at Fiera Milano’s complex in Rho (MI) and has been organized by the Italian Wines Union since its first edition in 1963, conceived as a unique and very high quality training and professional development event.
As a point of reference for the wine technology sector, the fair therefore hosts two international conferences sponsored by prestigious associations (OIV, CEEV and FIVS*) and featuring expert speakers who will sketch a sensory identikit of the modern consumer.
*OIV (International Organization of Vine and Wine), CEEV (European Committee of Wine Enterprises) and FIVS (International Wine and Spirits Federation).
International encounters
On 3 November the topic of discussion will be sustainability and quality, in a workshop called “Sustainable viticulture as a tribute to wine quality”, a perfect continuation to the pivotal congress of the 2013 edition, with updates on the state of the art and confirmation of the industry in terms of sustainable development. A lot of attention will also be dedicated to indicators other than that of the environment, in order to reflect holistically on wine sustainability, which necessarily involves social and economic factors and includes sensory analysis as a tool for evaluation.
Sensory analysis will be the focus of the congress on 4 November. “Discover the sensory factors” will investigate all aspects, from science to production and marketing. The decision to focus on sensory analysis has to do with the Italian Wines Union’s wish to demonstrate this technique’s scientific validity as a tool for measuring a wine’s quality and the rigor of its objective and quantifiable results. The goal of the conversation to be held at Simei is to codify a universal language with shared scales of measurement (a necessary step for the market). It will feature an innovative format with total sharing of the sensory analysis, involving the community of the most qualified international stakeholders, who are asked to define the sensory profiles that can be associated with different cultures in order to sketch a “sensory identikit” of the modern consumer. SIMEI (International Enological and Bottling Equipment Exhibition) is a world leader in wine technology exhibition and the only biennial international event presenting equipment, machines and products for the production, bottling and packaging of all food liquids all at the same time.
