Exports: markets to explore

A collaboration between ICE-Agenzia and Edizioni Dativo gives rise to a new column dedicated to Italian packaging concerns that turn their attention to looking for possible outlets abroad.

Like other sectors of Italian engineering excellence, packaging is also characterized by its vocation for internationalization and exports. According to data published by UCIMA (the association that represents Italian packaging machinery manufacturers), turnover generated by exports in 2013 exceeded 83% of the total, contributing significantly to the industry’s overall performance (+9.2%) and the consolidation of Italian products’ leadership in export markets.

In order to sustain and promote this impulse, each issue of ItaliaImballaggio will now include a section entitled “Export: markets to explore”, presenting information processed by one or more offices of the ICE-Agenzia’s international network, in such a way supplying a direct and up-close look at the opportunities offered by each of the economies under analysis. The section will also lay out the basic structural features of these markets, alternating the traditional Italian export destinations with ones less traveled, but not for this reason less promising.

Promoting an industry. The updates will deal with all the industries most relevant to the sector, focusing on all phases in which Italian technology can be viably promoted: packaging production, graphics and printing. Furthermore, where possible and opportune, notes will be given on trends in adjacent markets, such as food processing, pharmaceuticals, plastic processing and other similar sectors. Within the new operational structure of the ICE-Agenzia, these industries will be the topic of specific promotional activities aimed at incentivizing synergies between different sectors, with the objective of supporting the Italian offer in as complete and coordinated a fashion as possible. An approach of this type is particularly recommended for emerging markets or ones that have not yet been fully formed: the same in which assistance and support from institutions during preparation and implementation of business market access strategies can play a decisive role.

The project is coordinated from the ICE-Agenzia headquarters in Rome, out of the Office of Engineering, Chemicals, Energy and Environment, directed by Alessandro Liberatori. Management representative: Matteo Masini, tel. 06.5992.9356, [email protected]
