OSCAR 2012: technology, growth driver

The 2012 “Oscar dell’imballaggio” this year focuses on technological innovation of packaging systems and products. However, concepts of environmental sustainability are as ever a major feature.
The competition is held under the auspices of Ipack-Ima 2012: the awards ceremony for the solutions entered will be held February 29th 2012 at 4 pm, in the Progettare il Futuro Hall.

The competition organized by the Istituto Italiano Imballaggio in collaboration with Ipack-Ima 2012 - and which is sponsored by Conai, Iulm, Politecnico di Milano and with the support of BASF - this year has technology as the great "transversal theme".
The packaging selected for the competition shows many facets of the same, as the case has it interpreting the possibility of improving the usability of products, ensuring integrity, freshness and quality, increasing the visibility and facilitating the handling of the same.
But, as we shall see in the next few pages, technology enables the creation of sustainable packaging solutions, this also from the point of view of the environment, the production processes and performance.

BASF sponsors the “Oscar dell’Imballaggio” 2012
After last year’s success, BASF, the world leading chemical company, confirmed its sponsorship of the 2012 edition of the “Oscar dell’Imballaggio”, to be held at the Ipack-Ima fair February 29th.
BASF’s business with the world packaging industry is worth around 2.5 billion euros and constitutes a sector where the company continues to transfer its high tech content and environmentally sustainable solutions.
«Italy is one of the key markets in Europe and worldwide both for packaging production and for the completeness of the supply chain» states Daniel Campo, Commercial Director of BASF Italy. «A multi-year partnership exists between us and the Istituto Italiano Imballaggio and we are happy to support this important award that rewards the creativity and the technical innovation of those who work in the industry».
BASF will be present with its own stand at Ipack-Ima, where it will be presenting the sustainability of its solutions to the market through four macro areas of prevailing current interest:
• solutions for the creation of completely biodegradable and compostable packaging that can be disposed of as segregated organic waste for the production of compost;
• solutions that improve the performance of paper and paperboard;
• water-based as opposed to traditional solvent based solutions;
• solutions for protecting recycled cardboard to help prevent migration of mineral oils.
