Virtuous, from many points of view

The Cuki projects. Reduction of material for cardboard packaging and practical help
to the Food Bank that with "Cuki save the food", redistributes surplus food.

Cuki, a specialist in providing high performance products for storing, cooking and preparing food, not only shows material recycling instructions on its packaging, it has also optimised the packaging of its own products. Carlo Bertolino, Commercial Director of Cuki Cofresco spoke to us on the subject.
«Among the sustainability initiatives undertaken by the company, I wish to reiterate the new pack for the film sold under the Cuki and Domopak brandnames: the side of cardboard cartons have been reduced from 45x45 mm to 42x42mm, leading to a 5% drop in the weight of the packaging.
The same operation was also applied to the packaging of the roll of aluminium foil, resulting in a carton that weighs about 25% less than the average weight of similar products on the market.
The reduction in weight of the Cuki and Domopak cartons, obtained by reducing the side of the box, has not only enabled improved rigidity, but also an annual saving of about 54,000 kg of paper».
This year the company will also be implementing the change on private label products, with a further saving of around 10,000 kg per year.

Cuki save the food. The project offers a real contribution to countering the waste of food resources.
Cuki in fact offers the Food Bank’s program Siticibo tens of thousands of aluminium trays, bearing the Cuki Save the Food project logo, to best guarantee the preservation of food saved without waste (what is more, the aluminium tray is considered the “symbol” product of the brand and everyday enters the homes of millions of Italian families, in delicatessen products and in the kitchens of the catering and restaurant trade).

The Food Bank (Banco Alimentare) recovers ready food in restaurants, canteens, hospitals and schools, catering companies and organizes daily deliveries to affiliated charity canteen facilities who provide meals for the poor and needy throughout Italy. Cuki Save the Food has enabled the implementation of Siticibo Ristorazione, already operational in the Milanese hinterland, in Turin and Genoa, and has enabled the the start-up of collection from new donors in Salerno, Pavia and Varese.

The “good packaging” proposal continues. After having collected together
in a volume various instances of optimization of paper and cardboard packaging, Comieco is encouraging companies to transmit the improvements adopted fulfilling the shared definition of “responsible packaging”*.

* For “RESPONSIBLE” is meant packaging that feature qualities that combine environmental safety, respect of the needs of all users and improvement of economic, social and cultural aspects.
