Crocco receives ISCC PLUS label certifying the entire supply chain
Supply chain traceability, total transparency in the description of materials used in the finished product (organic, recycled, etc.) and the use of raw materials obtained from deforestation-free crops are just a few of the requirements met by the polyethylene packaging films produced by Crocco, which has been granted ISCC PLUS certification (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) by the eponymous organisation whose members include names such as WWF, European Bioplastics and the Universities of Illinois and Twente.
Renato Zelcher, CEO Crocco
“Our approach to sustainability is not limited to what happens in our factories, but covers everything from the sustainable management of raw materials through to the production of polyethylene and the manufacture of our films for the food industry,” explains Crocco’s CEO Renato Zelcher. “With this voluntary certification we wanted to demonstrate that every link in our supply chain is healthy and makes its own contribution to the circular economy.”
ISCC PLUS not only certifies the sustainability of the product by identifying the quantity and quality of sustainably sourced material in the formula, but also verifies the quality of suppliers, who must meet standards of transparency and sustainable management of raw materials, from cultivation through to all processing stages.
Other certifications recently obtained by Crocco include Compostabile CIC certifying the effective industrial compostability of food films; OCS, regarding the treatment of microplastics in plants; ISO 14067:2018 Systematic Approach, calculating the climate footprint of the entire product range; and Plastica Seconda Vita on the use of recycled plastic for up to 60% of the plastic film. The process is part of a wider sustainable plastic packaging programme called Greenside, which uses a process of collaborative eco-design to limit environmental impact and even to offset CO2 emissions.
