Food packaging from here to 2050
Coop (retail leader in Italy) has selected Sealed Air as its packaging partner in order to demonstrate fresh protein packaging trends in the “Supermarket of the future” at Expo.
The exhibition area focused on two time arcs: “Horizon 2020” focuses on food safety, preservation longevity and brand building, while “Horizon 2050 offers information on future methods for guaranteeing the freshness of food products.
Meats. The innovations presented include the Cryovac® OvenEase® solutions perfected by the Vercelli Group one of the leading and most modern European companies dedicated to veal meat production. This packaging solution makes it possible to marinate fresh red meat in packaging ready even for cooking. The vacuum pack prolongs preservation of meat by 28 days, and the exclusive “Hat of the Chef” indicator shows when the roast is ready.
The Cryovac® OvenEase® pack is convenient and simple to use since it enables marinating the meat in spices directly in the bag, for a long period of time; the hermetic seal traps humidity and enhances the tenderness and juiciness of the meat.
Fish. The Future Food District also shows Sealed Air’s futuristic response for food safety and extending preservation of easily perishable foods like fresh fish.
This is the case of Darfresh® HPP, a film that functions as a second skin, suitable for high pressure pasteurisation, guaranteeing safety and freshness in fish with a 20 day shelf life.
The “easy-open” pack also has visual indicators (“freshness drops”) to warn the consumer when the product is approaching the expiry date and guarantees the absence of odors in the fridge.
