Tailored automation for packaging

WITTENSTEIN’s (many) mechatronic solutions manage in the best possible way the complexity of production in various industrial fields, with the aim of evolving systems with a view to competitiveness. There are specific proposals for the packaging world, with a focus on the food industry.

Whether it's blistering machines or wrapping machines for primary packaging, cartoning machines, shrink wrappers or delta robots for secondary packaging, box-filling machines, palletisers for end-of-line or other packaging plant, the WITTENSTEIN Group offers various solutions that range from gearboxes, actuators and brushless micro-motors to components with integrated cynapse® sensor.

Let’s start with the gearboxes

For movement of the axes, numerous lines of reducers can be chosen, in right-angle, orthogonal or worm gearbox versions: all the solutions ensure maximum safety thanks to the special materials and geometries, optimised to prevent the deposit of product residues. In addition, food compatible lubrication (foodgrade) enables its use also in food production and packaging contexts, where accidental contact with the product is possible. WITTENSTEIN also offers coaxial and angular reducers with Corrosion Resistant output shaft, flange or hollow through shaft and the Hygienic Design line, with shaft output (HDV) or with flange output (HDP), for compact, highly dynamic delta robot-type applications.

Rotary servo actuators: reduced dimensions and high performance

Among the servo actuators, premo® stands out, a completely scalable series that combines motors and gearboxes power characteristics corresponding to the application and which can be configured in an absolutely modular way. They are also characterised by their reduced dimensions, simplifying integration in tight assembly spaces.

The premo® platform currently comes in three lines:

  • TP Line, highly dynamic with output flange, excellent for advanced positioning and machining applications such as, for example, flow-pack machines that require very high production speeds;
  • SP Line, with smooth output shaft and resolver, perfect for positioning applications, characterized by high power and excellent dynamics. Handling portals are a classic application;
  • XP Line, with smooth output shaft with extremely high performance, offering great versatility in all sectors.

To meet even more rigorous hygiene requirements, moreover, WITTENSTEIN offers a compact actuator in stainless steel with axenia value single-cable technology, which resists over a long period a wide range of aggressive substances, ensuring absolutely precise and dynamic coupling between motor and gearbox.

The IP66/67 and IP69K micromotors

WITTENSTEIN’s portfolio developed for packaging, finally, includes the cyber® dynamic line brushless micromotors both in a stainless-steel version, with protection grade IP66/IP67 and in Hygienic Design stainless steel, which offers total shielding (IP69K) against strong water jets also at high temperature, high pressure steam apparatus or temporary immersions. Thanks to the low rotor inertia, they are ideal for strong accelerations, short displacements and frequent speed changes, such as in pick&place applications.
