HBM load cells certified for the USA

In order to be able to market weighting components in the United States, it is necessary to satisfy a series of requirements.

In particular, NTEP certification is necessary (National Type Evaluation Program), which attests compliance with Manual 44 of the National Institute for Standards and Technology, equivalent to Germany’s Institute of Measurement (Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt or PTB).
The German multinational HBM obtained this certification after passing a re-certification audit, and so it is now authorized to offer its lines of load cells even for applications destined for the USA.

A procedure to guarantee quality. In order to obtain this certificate, in addition to technical weight verification and testing of scales at site of use, it is also necessary to verify and certify the manufacturer’s production facilities; the success of the operation is certified by a compliance document, in accordance with the Verified Conformity Assessment Program. In practice, this is the result of an audit during which the manufacturer’s quality systems in particular are evaluated, and special static tests are also conducted on the load cells, in accordance with Manual 44. The audit must be performed by an independent third party (such as, for example, the American NQA).
