Innovative digital printing of stand-up pouches
Xeikon, a division of Flint Group, is proposing a new digital printing solution for stand-up pouches in the food, beverage, chemical and pharmaceutical sectors.
The Dutch company has simplified a key part of the overall production process to ensure a fast turnaround solution and consequently higher productivity. By first digitally printing the text and graphics on a thermal laminate, the outside layer of the pouch is prepared and ready for the next steps.
A variety of different layers are then constructed by lamination with a series of barriers for protection before the pouch is finally put together in the manufacturing process.
Xeikon digital printing solution for pouches utilises dry toner technology, which comes with a guarantee for food safety.
This solution has many advantages, including high print quality on flexible substrates, reduced start-up costs and no job changeover costs. The printer also has the ability to print variable data information in both single and full colour.
For intensive print operations with high volumes and complex jobs where it is necessary to assess which process and technologies will provide an advantage, the crossover point between the flexo and digital process is at least 4,000 linear metres.
