Safety and quality with X-rays

Ishida Europe’s advanced X-ray inspection systems are ideal for detecting foreign bodies, including aluminium, tin, glass, stones, hard rubber, plastic, bones and shells. The Ishida IX-GA range offers a choice of models to meet a variety of throughput speeds, pack types and product sizes.

The IX-GA uses a unique self-learning Genetic Algorithm (GA) technology to offer maximum detection sensitivity and reliability. The machine can detect impurities down to 0.3mm in size and can also spot missing items or damaged products. In addition, the place of contamination can be accurately pinpointed.
Foreign bodies can be detected through aluminium foil and also in tins, regardless of the temperature or the salt and water content of the product. The machines can also handle top sealed and thermoformed trays and flexible bags as well as unpacked product.

Evermore accurate protocols. GA technology focuses the machine to identify difficult to detect contaminants with a high degree of accuracy, even at high throughput rates, using image data analysis over a number of inspections.
As it is common in food production for similar contamination problems to recur, data logging can help to build up a more precise calibration protocol with each inspection.
This enables permanent or recurring defects to be more easily identified and their location in the pack pinpointed.
The food being inspected is not affected by radiation and is therefore not subject to compulsory labelling, and thanks to a user-friendly stainless steel design, the machines can also be easily cleaned, and the belt conveyors can be removed without tools.

Several userfriendly models. The IX-GA range offers easy operation via its simple to use touch screen. Features such as the sensitivity of the inspection process can be adjusted at the touch of a button while up to 100 product settings allow fast changeovers.
The declination in models specialised per application enables even the most specific needs to be satisfied.
The newest model in the Ishida X-ray range is the Ishida IX-G2 which can detect even the smallest bones in meat and poultry at high inspection speeds. The new system provides an ideal quality check for manufacturers producing meat fillets and boneless chicken pieces.
Other models include the Ishida IX-GA-B3034 capable of detecting both metallic and non-metallic contaminants within products packed in PET bottles, tetra packs, carton brick packs and pouches, and the IX-GA-65100, which is particularly suitable for large products, crates and cartons, with dimensions up to 100x65x39H cm.

Ishida Europe presents at Cibus Tec, at the stand of its Swiss-Italian distributor Itech (Hall 3 G037), a series of checkweighing solutions used in many applications. In addition to the latest developments in X-ray technology, the multiheaded weigher for sticky fresh produce, a weigher specifically designed to handle small products at high speeds and the most advanced solutions for checkweighing stand out.

• The CCW-R-214-08 (photo 1) handles small products between 5 and 500 g, with speeds up to 210 weighings per minute depending on the application. Distinguishing elements: the proven circular multiheaded weighing system with Ishida technology, the PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) system, the advanced AFV (Anti-Vibration Floor) system, a 5-stage high speed digital filter and a new algorithm for the calculation of the best combination, based on FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) technology, which ensure speed, accuracy and efficiency levels close to 100%.

• A mention of the DACS-G Ishida checkweigh machine (photo 2), capable of reaching exceptional speeds while maintaining high accuracy. By pressing a single button, the operator can switch between two weighing ranges enabling several types of food to be managed. In addition, a unique DFL (dislocating Force Limiter) automatically disables the sensor weight from the weighing conveyor if excessive force is suddenly exerted (for example during cleaning).

• Lastly, the Ishida CCW-M-106 enables speedy and efficient handling and weighing of sticky products such as fresh meat and poultry and prepared fruit and vegetable. Due to its multi-head inline structure, fed by a tray via belts, the product flow can be adjusted so that each build-up hopper receives roughly the same amount.
