‘Slip-rings’ allied to automatic machines

The latest-generation slip-rings offered by Servotecnica are increasingly simple to assemble and reduce maintenance operations

Bottling, labelling and flow pack machines: there are many areas in which Servotecnica’s slip-rings, with a multitude of applications, prove to be precious allies. The Lombardy-based company, which has been operating in the automation and motion control sector since 1980, presented numerous new developments at the SPS fair in Parma.

Alessandro Gomarasca, Product Development Manager, has told us about the most interesting applications for the packaging machines sector.

«In the world of packaging, we use two slip-ring lines in particular. Those for flow pack machines, which we have always offered, dedicated to cutting and sealing: we sell thousands of these pieces every year; they are super tried-and-tested and ‘plug and play’ devices and, therefore, extremely practical. In the last five years we have developed slip-rings with hybrid cables, designed, therefore, to be replaced with the automation manufacturer’s cable. The latest to be launched on the market was developed together with Rockwell on the ArmorKinetix system».

«Then - Gomarasca continues - there are the flat slip-rings, presented here at SPS; as well as being flat, they have very large through holes. In contrast with traditional slip-rings, instead of charcoal as the contact material, they have brushes made of precious metals, in this case silver. This, besides reducing the level of wear, the amount of dust created decreases and so the units in question need less maintenance. There is as yet no line with regards to these innovative products: we make “custom” designs dedicated to pilot customers. It’s a frameless solution, therefore to be completely integrated into the machine and easy to align and assemble».
