Hi-tech weighing for mixed snacks

To handle the weighing of its frozen snacks, Belgian producer Ad van Geloven turned to Ishida, also involving them in the design phase.

The added value of their "Funmix" range of mixed snacks is in the presence of multiple ingredients in a single pack: for example one 426 g bag of "Funmix Spicy" contains six pieces for each of the four types of different appetizers. Ad van Geloven has therefore set up a new packaging line, able to mix snacks in two different types of bags, but to also manage individual products at high speed and to weigh the mixtures of the other brands of snacks packed in windowed boxes.
The line is based on a 20-head Ishida weigher of the advanced "R" series. Ishida has also provided and integrated the casing, conveyors, and a feed system that can transfer 1500 kg/h of product from the refrigerated areas.

In addition to the extraordinary flexibility, the Ishida weigher provides the speed you need: 58 packs/min for standard bags, and 55 packs/min for the larger 780 g variety. The quick cleaning of the feed and weighing system includes washing with water, the installation has therefore been designed so that the joins between the upper levels and the packaging can be sealed with waterproof covers.
Other important benefits witnessed by the user: the new line requires 3 or 4 fewer employees per shift and, last but not least, Ishida installed and commissioned the new line in just two weeks.
