An Italian success story
CPR System: management of reusable plastic packaging
The CPR System Cooperative (based in Gallo, FE) is a sector structure that produces, handles and recycles plastic packaging (green plastic crates with collapsible sides circulating in largescale distribution) as well as europallets.
Its associates number 1,015 concerns that, in addition to the main large Italian retailers, also include the main producers and packers of fruit and vegetables.
The system developed is based on an operating cost calculated in relation to the actual handling carried out and the common services provided. Through organized facilities and logistical platforms CPR provides the washing, disinfection, re-granulation and complete reuse of collapsible side packaging.
The circuit, what is more, is based on the transparent management of the handling and moving operations, subject to strict controls.
The only example in Europe, CPR provides its members with a real saving of 40% compared to other recyclable plastic packaging, as well as numerous environmental benefits (less impact of solid waste and rationalization of distribution logistics). The figures for handling per type, in this respect, speak for themselves: over 117 million crates, 529,000 minibins and 4.3 million pallets handled.
CPR has 15 platforms available, three of which washing centers, and its activity has generated a turnover of 47.54 million euros.
How it works. The CPR fruit and vegetable associate collects the packaging from the depots, they pack their product in CPR crates and deliver the same to the distributor. CPR then arranges for the collection and washing of the containers putting packaging back into circulation for new use.
Products for internal logistics
Starting from June 2013, Rulmeca (Almè, BG) will be presenting a new range of solutions for internal logistics, in particular, rolls, motorised rollers, drum rollers for handling and moving materials as well as lanes and modules for dynamic storage systems.
Two the important features associated with the launch: once the distribution agreement in Italy for the products of the historic partner has ended, the new proposals will be traded under the Rulmeca brand which, with these investments, confirms the importance of the industrial transportation system for its own activities.
The Rulmeca group today counts over 1200 employees in 19 concerns around the world and is present with its own branches in 20 countries.
