Mechatronics for safe packaging

The wide range of solutions developed by WITTENSTEIN ensure efficiency and productivity in packaging lines, as well as the safety of the packaging. The case of JASA Packaging Solutions.

Packaging machines have to meet a wide variety of specifications depending on the product and the sector in which it is used. Key aspects for this type of machinery are productivity, product safety, format change, batch traceability and ease of cleaning. From this point of view, the WITTENSTEIN Group has developed tailored solutions for the entire production line, from primary to secondary and tertiary packaging. These solutions include reduced backlash gearboxes, also specific for delta robots, servo-actuators, brushless micromotors and a whole series of dedicated accessories.

Pluses for the food sector

WITTENSTEIN’s product lines for the food sector have a specific lubrification and ensure maximum resistance against corrosion thanks to the use of parts in stainless steel and the special nickel-plating treatment of the casing. The hygienic-design versions, designed to avoid the accumulation of impurities, makes it possible, moreover, to manage production lines where it is necessary to clean a number of times a day with caustic acids, aggressive detergents or corrosive disinfectants.

How to combine efficiency and sustainability

WITTENSTEIN’s specialists are able to propose the best solution, supported by the cinematica cymex® 5 software for dimensioning the entire chain. This is the case of the Dutch company JASA Packaging Solutions, for which a solution able to adapt to the technology for the packaging of apples and other types of fruit and vegetables in sleeves made of 100% recyclable cardboard has been developed.

Specialised in the development and construction of vertical packaging machines, boxing machines and complete weighing and packaging lines, JASA Packaging Solutions makes machines for a variety of products and packaging processes in the food industry.

For these lines, WITTENSTEIN proposed planetary and hypoid gearboxes from the Advanced and Value segment, using a gearbox with optimised output interface, allowing JASA’s technicians to assemble a belt pulley directly on the gearbox without having to use an additional bearing. Taking account of consumer sensitivity towards plastic packaging, moreover, JASA has developed machines suitable for processing paper, conceiving a special method that eliminates the need for conventional sealing. This makes it possible to package products more quickly with a recyclable material, which limits the use of film to specific products where plastic remains the best choice.

WITTENSTEIN was chosen by JASA for the price-performance ratio, combined with the complete support offered by the Engineering Team, able to cover the entire cycle, from the design phase to the after-sales service.
